MAY RESILIENCE WEEK TWO Focusing on Gratitude I am not a fan of people saying "Well it could be worse" or "Some people have it worse than you do". In my opinion, it is very insensitive considering each of us has our own struggles. Some struggle more than others based on different events. At the same time, it is our job to help ourselves heal and we are the only person that can help us through this process. Gratitude is part of the process to be thankful for things we are happy we have or grateful for what is still there. The purpose of gratitude isn't to compare our situation or make us feel guilty. It is to help us refocus on things that we can still be grateful for. So, for example, I went through a very hard grieving process when my cat Mr. Sully passed away. In fact, it has been over a year and I still feel the pain from his loss. At the same time to help me balance my pain to be sure I can get up and go I try to tell myself I am grateful I have my other...
Appreciate Everyday Life is a Journey We are focusing the month of March brainstorming what makes us feel alive. When we do things that make us feel happy and alive we are building positive meaning in our lives and those around us. So far we have focused on the following: 1. What makes us feel alive? How do we apply these events in our lives? 2. Live life with a meaning. Being alive means your life is fullfilling a meaning. 3. Are you alive in your career? You spend a great deal of your life working. Your career should make you feel alive. Today we are going to focus on appreciating each day. When we wake up instead of brainstorming all the things you have to do instead, think about all the wonderful things you have now. Sometimes we start our day off with too many thoughts and focus on things we need to do, negativity, fear, anxiety, worry, and over working our thoughts. I prefer to wake up and just focus on the morning, check my Facebook, enjoy my coffee for at least...
Come Alive! Life is a Journey We are focusing on finding things that make us feel alive. Our goal is to find things that make us feel happy and apply these events to our future schedule. For example I enjoy teaching and it makes me feel alive! I have days I am tired or feel overwhelmed and it is not perfect. Overall, I enjoy it so much that I look forward to my classes. So it makes sense for me to apply teaching to my daily schedule and find ways to teach. Teaching allows me to grow while giving the opportunity for others to grow with my knowledge. Another thing that makes me feel alive is going to Hawaii. I love the Big Island and I cannot wait to go back. While I am on the beach or traveling through the areas of the island I feel at peace, excited, and a nagging desire to be a part of that culture. I plan and find ways to help me take my vacation in Hawaii. This gives me motivation to keep working through life challenges. What are things that make you feel alive? How c...
