Summertime Preparation Kitty Wellness and Health Summertime brings a lot of health risk for the kitty in/outdoors. It doesn't matter if kitty is only indoors there are still risks. Fleas, ticks and parasites can still find their way into the home. We try our best to keep our homes clean and safe from risks; however, we have limited ability to keep our home foolproof. Here are some tips to get kitty ready for summer Fresh cool water If your kitty is indoors then the water supply will be good. If your kitty is outdoor you need to provide fresh clean cool water for kitty daily. Out of the sun Kitty still needs a place out of the sun to cool off during hot summer months. Some cats enjoy a nice cool place on the patio. I have put up a mister fan for my dogs during the hot months. If you are struggling with indoor heat use fans to help keep kitty cool. The Shedding Season I have a ragdoll and his fur is like owning a Siberian Husky. He grows a thick coat in the winter and sheds if of early spring. Buddy my Siamese Lynx Seal Point does get a thicker coat in the winter but he is short hair. He too shedding all over the place but not nearly as bad as Sweetheart (Ragdoll). Buddy actually sheds more in the fall. So get those grooming brushes out and start grooming kitty weekly (minimal) if possible daily to prevent excessive hair clutter in the home. Bath Time for Kitty? I don't know about you but I do know there is no way my cats are going to let me bath them. If your cat will now is a good time after a good grooming session to give your cat a bath to shed off all that winter dander. Bedding and Posts Spring cleaning should also include washing down all areas where cats tend to nap/sleep or lay a lot.
